Teen Programs

Teens turn to the Y for academic assistance, employment, life skills advancement and good, healthy fun. The Y is a place where teens can work out, give back and meet friends.

The Y is a place for teens to call their own and a safe environment where they can find balance between freedom and responsibility.

We offer programs and services for teens age 12-18, along with year-round volunteer opportunities!

Youth & Government

Youth and Government: Over the course of a school year, this non-partisan program provides middle and high school students the opportunity to become civically engaged through experience running a model state legislature. Our program focuses on the four goals of YMCA teen leadership programs: leadership development, personal growth, service to others, and social development. Pennsylvania’s Youth & Government has been a longtime standing, non-partisan, civic engagement program for teens, giving them hands on experience to the inner workings of our state government by participating in model legislature.

Students in grades 8-12 will have the opportunity to gain a level of knowledge on how a democracy works by learning how ideas become bills and how a bill becomes a law, parliamentary procedure, debate and persuasion skills, and the art of compromise and communication.

This program is also framed around or four core values of Honesty, Respect, Caring, and Responsibility.

Teen Sports

YMCA Teen Sports offer a great balance of competition, skill development and sportsmanship. When participants work together in a team atmosphere, they learn how to make decisions, communicate, work on team building, trust, and build character. We teach the fundamentals of each sport, and just as important, we focus on the YMCA’s character development traits of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
